USA Mountain Bike National Championships 2008 - Mount Snow, VT

Thanks Joaquin and Jennel for these awesome photos!

Thanks Jennel for this awesome recap:

The USA Cycling mountain bike national championships were held in Mount Snow, Vermont this year.  It was a wonderful experience both as an athlete and as a spectator.  Several events were on the schedule keeping everyone busy, and dozens of vendors were on hand selling, displaying, and demonstrating.  The beginner women raced on friday afternoon, so we had plenty of time to take in the sights.  I am pleased to say that I made it through my race without any major mishaps (ok, one tumble).  The course was in great condition, and the weather was beautiful.  The loop was about six miles long; they say only three and a half were climbing, but it felt like I was in my granny gear the whole time.  It was the two extremes of cross-country riding: long, steep, unforgiving climbs paired with tight, rooty, sometimes scary, downhill singletrack.   I was relieved to see the finish line in sight; it was an amazing feeling passing under the giant time clock as it recorded my lap time.  Thanks to Joaquin, Mike/Cathy Rossi for cheering me on.
After my race was over, it was time for some fun.  We had the opportunity to watch several different disciplines of mountain biking from downhill to dual slalom, super-d to observed trials.  Of course we made time to watch the Men’s and Women’s cross country pros race and even got to catch some of the short track race as well.  The whole week was full of fun and exciting events, and I am so glad I took the opportunity to participate in a national biking event so close to home.  USA Cycling is taking the national championship races to Colorado for 2009.  I can't wait!
