Marty's of Morristown:

The Epic 80-90 mile road tour that visits all three Marty's locations.

See a map of the whole route at this link

This ride leaves from the Morristown location only.  8:00 am start time.

Ride in Le Tour this year!  Tour de Marty's is an epic road tour that just so happens to hit all three Marty's Reliable Cycle locations.  The route is hilly, and is 80 - 90 miles long depending on which option you select to go from Hackettstown to Morristown. (We have a hilly option and a not-so-hilly option for this last leg of the tour.  See cue sheets.)

Ride one, two or all three sections of our loop.  Enjoy some snacks and refreshments at each Marty's location during the ride!

The Team Marty's Bus will be out on the route in case you need support or transportation.

The ride will start at 8:00 am on July 25, 2009 at Marty's of Morristown, however, you are also more than welcome to start the ride on your own at any time throughout the day.

This will not be a guided ride. Just follow the cue sheets and ride with the group or at your own pace.  (you will need an accurately calibrated cycling computer on your bike to follow the cue sheets)

All three of the routes are fairly hilly, with a total elevation gain of about 5,500 feet, so attempt them at your own risk.  The routes were designed for relatively experienced cyclists.  (not to try and scare you away...)

Section 1:     Start at Marty's of Morristown.   End at Marty's of Randolph
15.1 miles

Download Section 1 Cue Sheet (PDF)

The Morristown to Randolph section is the shortest and easiest of the three.  There are still a couple fairly large climbs, particularly, Calais Rd.  If you are unsure about your capabilities, you may want to start with this section and then possibly add on the Randolph to Hackettstown section if you are still feeling fresh when you get to Randolph.

As a reference point, if you have done our Saturday morning ride from Marty's of Morristown, which is 20 miles, the climbing in this section of Tour de Marty's will make it considerably more challenging, even though it is shorter.

This route takes you west from Morristown and through the center of Brookside.  Then you will head north through the historic Combs Hollow area as you go into Randolph.

Section 2:       Start at Marty's of Randolph.  End at Marty's of Hackettstown
26.9 miles

Download Section 2 Cue Sheet (PDF)

The Randolph to Hackettstown section is medium in length and difficulty.  It's longer than Section 1.  There are (of course) still some big climbs, particularly Minnisink Rd.

As a reference point, this ride is similar in difficulty to our Sunday morning road ride from Loantaka.  Its' not quite as long as the Sunday ride, but the terrain is similar.  Be ready to climb!

This route goes north from Marty's of Randolph and follows Berkshire Valley Rd. into Jefferson.  Before you know it, you will come out at Lake Hopatcong.  You cross the lake near its norther tip and then head down the west side of the lake.  There are some nice views of the lake from Lakeside Drive.  At this point, you will be heading south west.  You will pass Wild West City as you come into Byram.  Hop onto Waterloo Rd. and ride past Historic Waterloo Village and Allamuchy State Park and then in to downtown Hackettstown.

Section 3:      Start at Marty's of Hackettstown.  End at Marty's of Morristown
37.6 Miles or 45.4 miles   (2 route options)

Download Section 3 Cue Sheet (PDF)

The Hackettstown to Morristown section is the longest and most difficult of the three.  There are several steep, long climbs.  (King's Highway being the toughest)  There are also some treacherous downhill sections with tight switchbacks.  Be careful!  (these sections are noted on the cue sheet)

We have added an optional detour for the second half of this section.  The green line avoids some killer climbing on the main route.  It heads out towards the Great Swamp and avoids the hilly Jockey Hollow area of the main route.

This route does take you through some of the most beautiful parts of New Jersey!  Beacon Hill Rd, Black River Rd, Pennbrook Rd and Jockey Hollow National Historic Park are some of the nicer parts.  Cocolux Bakery in Peapack-Gladstone is also a highlite on this ride.  Make sure you stop and have a tart.  It works out well because it is roughly half way between Hackettstown and Morristown.

The Whole Loop!
80 - 87  miles

Combining the cue sheets for each section will take you around the loop counter clock-wise for a challenging 80 mile ride (87 if you take the less hilly detour coming into Morristown.  The whole loop has about 5,500 feet of climbing.

Doing the full loop does NOT make for an easy ride.  As you have read in the above descriptions of individual sections, there are several LARGE CLIMBS.  This ride could easily take 7 to 9 hours to complete, so be ready for an all day adventure!  If you like climbing and are up for a challenge, you will have a really great time doing the full loop.  Enjoy!
