Sobe Energy DH Race 8/11/08

Thanks Joaquin for this recap:

Myself, Jennel and Mike headed up to MT. Snow VT to race in the race #4 of the SOBE Energy race downhill series.

Initially, it was only going to be Mike and I that planned on Racing Sunday morning. Jennel rented a bike to try out Downhilling and before she knew, we had her on the registration line and ready to compete the following day.  We practiced the course all afternoon on Saturday and called it a night and got some much needed rest.  Not too many devastating crashes or injuries to report.

The pictures are from the technical section of the course called “ Yard Sale”.  Jennel and I had trouble through the section and inevitably ended up crashing on every practice run. Mike, being a better DH rider, he cleared the section every time.  Sunday morning came, and we all headed to the top of the mountain.  All 3 of us had major butterflies before slamming through the gates and flying to the bottom at crazy speeds.   Jennel rode hard, cleared about 95% of the course (yard sale got her again), but made it to the bottom in one piece and got up on the podium as she took 2nd place in beginners women’s open.   Mike ripped through the course and had his best run of the weekend. Had he not had a slight stumble in “yard sale”, he would have taken 1st place.  He settled for a 2nd place finish in the beginners men’s 30-34 class.  I was the last of the three to head down the mountain. All I wanted to do was to clear “yard Sale” just once in the weekend.   The adrenaline kicked in and made it through “yard sale”  and coasted to a 3rd place finish in beginner men’s 30-34.

Thanks to Cathy Rossi for taking pictures and cheering us on!
